Catching the end of the month art walk, the project visited the Bentley Gallery at the hub of Scottsdale’s art district. As the project neared its end, photographers and fans came by for this evening site. Inside Bentley gallery Kurt’s drawings from the original site visit were on view - a total of 12 sites, some of which never came to pass. It was the first time the drawings have ever been shown alongside an installation, and it was a real treat to move between the physical reality of the RedBall installed and the imagination of the installations from the very beginning of the project, site visits and many conversations.
Bill Clinton’s surprise visit to Scottsdale had us scrambling to get to the next site within a tightly enforced timeframe. As we headed back to the Trolley Bridge the Secret Service were closing down the location, so in a quick and dirty rush we threw ball and all into the van to get past the barricades onto the bridge in the nick of time. Or so it seemed, until Bill was a bit late getting to dinner. He eventually drove right by, but strangely was one of the few people in Scottsdale not to take his picture with the RedBall. Must have been hungry.
