Site Study Drawings

Everywhere - sidewalk, canal, roadway, bridge, arch, bus stop - that RedBall has been around the world, I first stood there measuring, drawing and picturing the site. Though bound for public consciousness, RedBall begins as moment of private imagination. I bring rough sketches and photos home to my studio in New York to explore the potential of each site with working drawings and studies.

The drawings are a window into my thought process, reflecting the breadth of the Scottsdale installations. The McDowell Mountain Ranch Skate Park is a bolt of energy, youth, and movement - with a touch of the subversiveness inherent in RedBall. At the Arabian Library, I imagined the ball hovering above those who pass to the library’s inner courtyard. The Mondrian Hotel site - where the first press preview event occurred - resonates for me with Arizona images: the pool, the palms, the low horizon. I was on a quest for a site that would bring the Sonoran desert and the project together, and on the last day we found it. Pinnacle Peak Park sees the RedBall Project in the desert for the very first time.

The drawings are unique and are available by contacting the artist during the project. Only one or two are made for each site, they are 23″ x 16″ in ink and collage, a selection is show below. Get in touch here.
