MOCA

The Museum of Contemporary Art was an amazing ending to a intense 6 site run through Taipei. Early in the day a flury of last minute reporters gave way to lots and lots of pictures throughout the day as everyone who had followed the project came out, along with many who caught it for the first time. Many people have asked me what its been like in Taipei, and for me its been the people who have made the biggest impression. On the final day the initial shyness we had experienced at times burst into a frenzy of pure glee. It was one of the greatest finale days I have experienced and an amazing end to RedBall Taipei.

Shin Kong

A super windy day today! Though almost flying away a few times during setup Ray and Feng-hui were on hand to help out. The sun was out in full force as we edge closer to our last site the weather keeps getting better and better. Our first real TV interview today, will have the full clip up here in the video section soon I hope. Some students from a local art school were out braving the wind in watercolor to document the day. Onward to tomorrow and Museum of Contemporary Art!

Exhibition Site

The Art With Mountain exhibition opening was a full on all day event featuring speaches by no less than 9 local politicians, a harmonica orchestra from a local grade school, and the curator’s talk sandwiched in with more singing, artists bows, and of course food. Since I was front row for this I will have to add some of Tony’s pics in later, but you get a bit of the flavor of the day. As Sean said, “your going to experience an asian style opening!”. With the street blocked off and hundreds floating around into the evening we certainly did. It was a great day.

Taipei Cinema Park

The Shimin Ding district was our home for a day at the Cinema Park while the photographers were out in force. Including Anna who brought no less than three camera’s with her including a Polaroid and a Holga, the first of which Tony was happy to give a whirl. I spent part of the day adventuring for a very heavy duty extension cord for the new shiny inflator, and eventually bought the parts and made one myself. Chloe Chang from IW Magazine stopped by for a long interview and photo shoot. We had many return fans today with a few pics I will have to get from Tony and up here soon. Though the slideshow does feature one leaping shot of our curator Hu Chao Sheng Overall we were happy to be out of the rain and have sun in our future.

Chiang Kai-shek Memorial National Theater

Our first site in Taipei was the spectacular National Theater that is part of the downtown Chiang Kai-shek Memorial. A bit rainy -turns our curator has a reputation in this area for bringing the rain opening day- but now we are off an running. Feng-hui, Ray, and Ireen were all great on site and really helped in talking about the project. I spent most of my time posing for pictures, will get some of those up later. Also China Daily newspaper stopped by and will probably have something out today, and also Art & Collection (ARTCO) magazine who is covering the project. We even had some groups who dressed for the occasion. Tony (our intrepid filmaker) and I are still recovering from the jet lag, but off right now to a new site for today.
