
Abu Dhabi – 18 November 2011: With the start of the UAE 40th National Day celebrations, and in keeping with the festivities program endorsed by the National Day Celebrations Committee, the Committee, in cooperation with the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, has debuted the Redball Project in Abu Dhabi city as the first Arab and Middle Eastern city to hold this award winning sculptural intervention.
The RedBall Project is the creation of American artist Kurt Perschke, who works in sculpture, video, collage and public space. The 5 meter RedBall is a globe traveling public art project that has taken place in Barcelona, St. Louis, Portland, Sydney, Arizona, Chicago, Toronto, and Taipei.
The RedBall will be exhibited in public architecture throughout Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Western Region in a program created to ignite imagination and connection during the festive season reflecting the desire of the Celebrations Committee as well as the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City to enrich dialogue and embrace innovative and unique world-class artistic creation.
The RedBall sites kicked off on Sheikh Zayed Bridge and are moving to the Abu Dhabi Art at Saadiyat Island, and Abu Dhabi Corniche. It will be exhibited in Al Barri village after which it will move to Al Ain Museum, Al Jahili Fort and Mubazzarah before arriving at Madinat Zayed and Al Mirfa. The RedBall events will then return to join the celebration leading up to National Day, with sites at Khalifa Park, Emirates Palace, Flag area in Abu Dhabi Corniche and Zayed Sports city.
